Nehemiah 6:2 – Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, “Come and let us meet together at Hakkephirim in the plain of Ono.” But they intended to do me harm. 3 And I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you? 4 And they sent to me four times in this way, and I answered them in the same manner.
Nehemiah, the wine-tasting prophet for king Artaxerxes, was asked four times to come down and leave his great work unfinished.
- Matthew 27:40 – “If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”
- Matthew 27:42 – “He saved others; He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel; let Him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in Him.”
- Mark 15:30 – “Save Yourself, and come down from the cross!”
- Mark 15:32 – “Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may see and believe.”
There are only four verses in the Word of God where we can see Jesus being asked to come down from the cross and leave His great work unfinished.
When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished,” and He bowed His head and gave up His Spirit.
