Can I Lose My Salvation?

Most likely, you’ve probably heard someone say: “Once saved, always saved”, but unfortunately that’s a bit misleading. What should be said is: “IF saved, always saved.”

When the Holy Spirit indwells a person at the moment of their salvation/adoption/conversion, they are forever filled with the abiding presence of God. At the instance of a person’s new birth (“Created in Christ Jesus” – Eph 2:10), they are given The Holy Spirit, who is the seal and guarantee of our eternal hope of living in God’s glorious presence in paradise forever (“Christ in you, the hope of glory” – Col 1:27).

The unbreakable internal habitation of God’s very own presence has nothing to do with our obedience or good works, but everything to do with the immeasurable weight of Jesus’ finished work on the cross. Because Jesus’ blood is eternally holy and pure, the Holy Spirit is therefore permanently anchored within each born-again Christian. Therefore, those who have been born of the Spirit are permanent children of God, securely held by His grace, because it’s impossible to be spiritually “un-born again”.

“A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever.” (Jesus speaking) – John 8:35 NLT

So the helpful question isn’t, “Can I lose my salvation?”, but instead, “Can Jesus lose my salvation?”
