Jesus, the Best Wine

John 2:6-10 ESV – “Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.”

In verse 7; ‘Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim.’ In Lamentations 4:2, Jesus is the precious Son of Zion Who is regarded as an earthen jar of clay.

The Lord says in John 7:38, “Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of His heart will flow rivers of living water;'” Jesus, the earthen Jar of Clay from Lamentations, filled with Living Water.

Verse 10, “and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” Jesus is the Good Wine, and the Law was the lesser wine. Jesus is the Best, saved for last.

Also, verse 6 says, “Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons.” These jars were used for purification, so the parallel here is that Jesus’s body is the earthen jar that became our Purification.
