Galatians 3:11 – Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.”
Context = Contrasting the law versus faith without works.
To better understand this phrase, the emphasis needs to be placed on the word ‘live‘.
How do the children of God become truly alive? By doing works of the law, or by placing trust in what Jesus has finalized for us?
We come alive through believing in the gospel, that our sins, though many, are forever removed from our record, and not one of them will be drawn against us in the heavenly court of law. It should also be noted that our future sins, though potentially many, are unable to be written onto our account, because of what Jesus has done. Glorious good news! Therefore, we rest our faith in His obedience to the Bible, not our own.
Psalm 84:2 – My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD.
Do you know anyone who eagerly desires to do jury duty, or whose heart faints in wholehearted love at the thought of being prosecuted before a judge?
The legal systems of man are always busy crying out with great conviction for our full damnation, but the judicial system of heaven consistently and actively proves us holy through our faith in the blood of Jesus alone.
Isaiah 50:9 – Behold, the Lord GOD helps me; who will declare me guilty?
Hebrews 12:24 – and to Jesus, the Mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
