The main purpose of the Book of Enoch is to exalt Enoch above Jesus.
For the rest of this article, I will be making references from the book of Enoch using this link: https://ia800705.us.archive.org/15/items/AllTheBooksOfEnochenoch1Enoch2Enoch3/AllBooksOfEnoch.pdf
The book is designed to deceive the reader for the first 70 chapters, and it will leave you in the dark on who the “son of man” really is. The biblical language combined with playing with biblical characters, tricks the reader into thinking that the text is actually biblical.
Remember, you can’t assume the “son of man” in the book of Enoch is talking about Jesus.
Here’s The Proof
Enoch 71:11 – And I [**Enoch**] fell upon my face, and my whole body melted, and my spirit was transformed; and I cried out in a loud voice, in the spirit of power, and I blessed, praised, and exalted.
Enoch 71:12 – And these blessings, which came out from my mouth, were pleasing before that Head of Days.
Enoch 71:13 – And that Head of Days came with Michael, Gabriel, Raphael and Phanuel, and thousands and tens of thousands of Angels without number.
Enoch 71:14 – And that Angel, came to me [**Enoch**], and greeted me with his voice, and said to me: “You are the son of man who was born to righteousness and righteousness remains over you and the righteousness of the Head of Days, will not leave you.”
So now that we know that Enoch is the “Son of man” all throughout this book, we are able to see what is declared about him and why this text is spiritual trash
Enoch 46:3 – And he answered me, and said to me: “This is the Son of Man who has righteousness and with whom righteousness dwells. He will reveal all the treasures of that which is secret, for the Lord of Spirits has chosen him, and through uprightness his lot has surpassed all others, in front of the Lord of Spirits, forever
Contrast this blasphemy in Enoch 71 and 46 with the truth of Revelation 5 and Colossians 2:
Colossians 2:2 – that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s Mystery, which is Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 I say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments
Jesus alone reveals all the treasures of that which is secret, and His portion has surpassed all before the Lord of Spirits in everlasting uprightness
Revelation 5:1 – Then I saw in the right hand of Him who was seated on the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” 3 And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it, 4 and I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it. 5 And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that He can open the scroll and its seven seals.”
Enoch would have been in heaven at this time, and He wasn’t found worthy enough to open the scroll. Jesus alone is far more honorable than Enoch, and the only One who is worthy!
The Occult
The book of Enoch falls under the category of the “Gnostic Gospels”, and it just so happens that the word “gnostic” is associated with the occult:
Gnostic (adjective)
- Possessing intellectual or esoteric knowledge of spiritual things
Esoteric (adjective)
- Confined to and understandable by only an enlightened inner circle
- synomyns: kabbalistic, cryptic, mystical, occult
Here’s a direct quote from an occult website that loves the book of Enoch:
“Regardless of the opinions of scholars and theologians, the Books of Enoch are deeply significant scriptures, yet can only be understood by means of Kabbalah and Alchemy.”
“Indeed, we Gnostics are the elect ones, possessors of three great treasures that are:
A) The Philosophical Stone B) The Clavicle of Solomon C) The Books of Genesis of Enoch.” – Samael Aun Weor
It should be noted that Christianity is not esoteric, but it is exoteric
Exoteric (adjective)
- Suitable for the general public
The 1 John 4 Test
So even if you think this book is redeemable somehow, it still has to pass through the 1 John 4 test:
1 John 4:1 – Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already
When it comes time for the writer to make a strong, climactic, proclamation of Jesus (Chapter 71), they miss the moment completely. How sad and depressing. And if you study other translations of this book, you’ll find that the various translators have changed chapter 71:14 to say, “This is the Son of man”. Which keeps the reader still wondering who the Son of man is. And that’s the point of the occult! Keep the revelation of Jesus cloudy and unclear
Therefore the book of Enoch doesn’t pass through the 1 John 4 test. It therefore carries the same spirit of the antichrist
On the other hand, I love the opposite nature of the Spirit-breathed words straight from God Himself:
John 1:1 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made
Colossians 1:16 – For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities–all things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. 18 And He is the Head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the Firstborn from the dead, that in everything He might be preeminent. 19 For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross.
Implications: The Nephilim
Unfortunately, the majority of people get their primary ideas about the Nephilim from the book of Enoch.
Let’s take a look at Genesis 6:
Genesis 6:1 – When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown
All the underlines above are highlighting the physical nature of man in this text. Remember, the book of Enoch has been trying to force you to interpret Genesis 6 through the lens of occult ideologies for a long time
Let’s take a look at another place where the Nephilim are located in the Bible to get some more clarity on the physicality of everything happening here
Numbers 13:32 – So they brought to the people of Israel a bad report of the land that they had spied out, saying, “The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people that we saw in it are of great height. 33 And there we saw the Nephilim (the SONS of Anak, who come from the Nephilim), and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them.”
Anak = a tribe of the giant people in Canaan
The Nephilim were physical men, giants, and sons who were flesh and bone just like the Lord clearly states in Genesis 6 and Numbers 13
Check this out: below is the infamous chapter in the book of Enoch where it says that angels (non-physical spirits) had intercourse with physical women
It should be noted that this happens in none other than Enoch Chapter 6 to try to make us draw some “super spiritual” non-biblical conclusions with Genesis Chapter 6
Enoch 6:1 – And it came to pass, when the sons of men had increased, that in those days there were born to them fair and beautiful daughters.
Enoch 6:2 – And the Angels, the sons of Heaven, saw them and desired them. And they said to one another: “Come, let us choose for ourselves wives, from the children of men, and let us beget, for ourselves, children.”
So the book of Enoch told us that spirit beings have intercourse with physical human beings?! And mostly the general population of the Church has believed that, including myself. I guess I didn’t know what else to believe, because that’s all I’ve ever heard. But how can we interject something impossible happening into Genesis 6 that isn’t there in the text? Think about this: the occult is trying to twist our minds on how we view the very foundations and beginnings of God’s Word. It’s an attack on the foundation! I refuse to believe something impossible happens unless the Word of God directly reveals it
It’s like reading the story of David and Goliath and saying, “I read a book that’s not in the Bible, and it told me the secrets behind that story. It said that whenever David called upon the name of the Lord, it was actually aliens that helped him out, but he didn’t know that at the time, but now in our modern day society we know this to be true.”
Here’s a perfectly opposite example of believing the impossible, because it’s clearly revealed to us:
Luke 1:34 – And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” 35 And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the Child to be born will be called Holy–The Son of God. 36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.”
So we believe Jesus’ miraculous conception to be true because the impossibilities are detailed for us to be able to believe it. Isn’t that amazing? We’re not asked to believe anything outside the boundaries of His Word!
1 Corinthians 4:6 – I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another
Also another key insight into this topic is that it’s easy to miss the thousands of years between Genesis 4 and Genesis 6. Even though its 2 chapters, there are 14 generations and in those thousands of years, cities were created with a lot of people in them. And the first city that is highlighted in the Bible is from the lineage of a murderer who departed from the presence of God
Genesis 4:16 – Then Cain went away from the presence of the LORD and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden. 17 Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. When he built a city, he called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch
So therefore, it’s no surprise that there were many men on the earth by the time of Noah in Genesis 6. It is totally irrelevant for fallen angels to have intercourse with women. Because the book of Enoch should be totally irrelevant to us! But unfortunately in our culture it still holds a significant weight in how we interpret the Bible
The book of Enoch uses an old witchcraft trick that plays on the bible to try to get into the bible. Here’s what I mean:
Jude 1:14 – It was also about these that Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His holy ones, 15 to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”
There will never be 67 books of the Bible. His Word is complete and final in all 66 books that are perfectly God breathed. Praise God for the boundaries of His Trustworthy Word!
